My local pd... they keep the peace... and write tickets SLOW DOWN!
I live in a small neighborhood on the edge of the city. Though I appreciate the regular passing patrols through the neighborhood, I am a bit perturbed with the manner in which they are being conducted. This evening I pulled into the neighborhood and right after me a LAPD cruiser turn in to make his rounds. This officer immediately speed up (exceeding the posted limit) to tailgate me as I approached a stop sign. I took his action as an attempt to coax me into speeding up or distract me and force an error. In this situation wether in be civilian or other I always (safety permitting) pull to the side and wave the impatient motorist to pass me. The officer refused and stopped in the middle of the street. Wanting to avoid any unnecessary ugliness, I returned to the street and went home. I was frustrated but was satisfied with the fact that it did not escalate into an unpleasant encounter with an officer. What provokes this comment is that an hour later while sitting on my porch I witness an LAPD cruiser speeding through the neighborhood. He was not utilizing any of his emergency signals. This is a very dangerous practice. As a citizen who on occasion walks his dog at night, I would appreciate it if our officer's practiced safer driving habits.
